Foundation Relations Manager

Role Summary:  The primary responsibility of the Foundation Relations Manager is to develop and maintain a diverse network of Foundation partners and prospects in line with L’Arche USA’s programs, goals and financial needs, which include L’Arche USA’s contributions to its international work.  The Foundation Relations Manager will be responsible for researching and cultivating new foundation partners while stewarding existing partnerships.  They will be responsible for meeting the annual target for Foundation revenue.  The Foundations Relations Manager will report to the Director of Development. 

Responsibilities: Foundation Research, Grant Writing and Reporting 

  • Be the main relationship manager for our current and new foundation partners, in cooperation with the Director of Development and the Manager of Donor Relations. 
  • Perform research on Foundations’ programs, goals and giving potential with the goal of maximizing current relationships and increasing the number of active foundation partners. 
  • In cooperation with program staff and L’Arche International colleagues, write and submit grant applications and reports for L’Arche USA and L’Arche International. 
  • In cooperation with the Gift Processor and Database Coordinator, guarantee that all Foundation prospect and donor information is captured in our data management system in a timely manner and that the appropriate reports are pulled from the system as needed.  
  • Along with the Finance Coordinator and program staff, help track reporting requirements, monitor internal compliance with grant restrictions and purposes, and ensure timely submission of quality reports. 
  • In cooperation with the Director of Development, help ensure that individualized stewardship plans, strategies and communications for each Foundation and Foundation liaisons are implemented. 


Candidate Profile
: The Foundations Relations Manager has or can develop the necessary love of L’Arche’s mission, a passion that will enable them to translate L’Arche’s projects and programs into compelling cases for support and applications. They understand the power of inclusion to foster spaces of belonging for all and are motivated by the chance to help amplify the voices of people with intellectual disabilities.  They bring excellent writing as well as strong relational skills.  They will easily pick up the phone to engage new and existing partners and will be on a continuous search to find and explore new foundation partnerships.  The Foundations Relations Manager is comfortable behind the scenes, often playing the crucial role of linchpin between program, fundraising and finance staff.  Thoroughness and attention to detail are an absolute must.  So are active listening, a sense of service and curiosity in collaboration with partners and colleagues.  As a member of a remote team, the future Foundations Relations Manager has a strong work ethic, a high level of independence and reliable discipline in accomplishing the responsibilities of the position. Equally important, the Foundation Relations Manager is a humble team player, quick to bring in the expertise of colleagues to dialogue with foundation partners about L’Arche’s vision, aspirations, and programs.
