In 2007, three moms of adults with disabilities came together with a common dilemma, “What will the future hold for our children?”

Searching for options, they visited L’Arche Blue Ridge Mountains and saw persons with and without disabilities sharing life in beautiful relationship with each other—a life of respect, spirituality, celebration, and love. They witnessed a vision of what can be—a life they dreamed of for their children and others. Inspired by hope, they made a commitment to work towards a L’Arche community in Metro Richmond.

At the end of 2015, L’Arche Metro Richmond entered the “project” stage—a time for detailed organization and implementation of the strategic plan designed in the pre-founding period. This stage also includes: identifying the people with a disability and assistants to be welcomed; beginning fundraising in earnest; establishing relationships and agreements with government agencies and other organizations, and deepening contacts with local religious leaders and groups.

L’Arche Metro Richmond anticipates hiring an executive director at the end of 2016 and welcoming their first core members in 2017.
