Farm Specialist – Tahoma Hope

Accountable to: Farm Coordinator

General: In conjunction with the Farm & Gardens (F&G) Team, the Farm & Gardens Specialist is responsible for supporting both the Farm Coordinator and the Employment Lead in the overall implementation of the L’Arche Tahoma Hope Farm & Gardens Program. Guided by the Mission and Charter of L’Arche, the Farm Assistant works with the Farm & Gardens team to provide meaningful engagement across all areas the Farm participates.

Program Scope and Location: The L’Arche Farm & Gardens main site is located in Pierce County, south of Tacoma, WA. Daily activities occur on site with operations extending off site at various farmers markets and events throughout the County. The F&G team works to ensure all participants in the Farm experience, including
workers, volunteers, customers and service learning groups, live out the mission of L’Arche Farm & Gardens
while creating high quality plant and craft products. The F&G team includes the Farm Coordinator, the Employment Lead, the Farm Specialist, the Group Supported Employment (GSE) crew; 2 Farm Associates, the Individualized Employment 1:1 Direct Support Associate and the Outreach Director.

Quality of Work Experience for Core Members:
● Work with the F&G team to support Farm core members in their employment / vocational experience
● Support the Farm Coordinator in the seasonal needs and tasks of the Farm from fields to craft
● Provide input to Employment Lead for reviews and plans for Farm core members
● Ensure adherence to all policies and procedures as defined in the F&G Handbook / Manual
● Support core members in their daily tasks both onsite and off; Events, Farmers Markets Craft Sales etc
● Assist in building relationship with all who connect in with core members on the Farm

Quality of Work Experience for Farm Staff:
● Attend daily team meetings and participate in functional accompaniment once per month.
● Provide input into schedules for each season, including activities, products and plants
● Work with the team on planning days helping to manage agendas and schedules
● Maintain high quality of products by monitoring quality control at all steps of the process
● Support Farm Staff in their daily tasks both onsite and off; Events, Farmers Markets Craft Sales etc.

Volunteer / Outreach liaison for Farm & Gardens Program:
● Work with the Volunteer Coordinator around requests and needs of those seeking the F&G experience.
● Communicate with F&G team specific needs and requests for visits both on and offsite.
● Oversee and coordinate support of all volunteers and groups as volunteer liaison for the F&G Program
● Create a welcoming prepared presence for all who come onto the Farm
● Coordinate resources and materials for all who come into the Farm Experience

Administrative Responsibilities:
● Communicate maintenance needs to the F&G team including the Outreach Director
● Maintain all required F&G documentation in regards to volunteers, both individual and groups
● Assist Employment Lead as needed with documentation and tracking
● Maintain and build relationships with partner organizations, especially farmers markets and schools

● Home Care Aide / Nursing Assistant Registered with Exemption letter and Nurse Delegation

Minimum Qualifications:
● High School Diploma or equivalent; some college a plus
● One year of work experience with people with intellectual disabilities
● Willingness to learn growing methodologies
● Ability to work varied shifts and weekends
● Comfortable speaking and engaging with large groups
● Competent in Microsoft Office products, especially Excel, and common email and social media apps
● Valid driver’s license
● Ability to pass fingerprint background check
● Ability to pass 2-step TB test
● Ability to lift up to 50 pounds

Trainings/Certifications required (can be completed after hire):
● Trainings required by the Pierce County Human Services contract
● CPR/First Aid
● Blood Borne Pathogens
● WA State Food Handler’s Certificate

Full time (35-40 hrs/wk), benefits-eligible position. Wage dependent on qualifications; starts at $13.50/hour. Some evenings and weekends required. To apply, email a cover letter specific to this position and a resume to by Monday, June 26th.
