Development Director | L’Arche Atlanta

About L’Arche Atlanta: L’Arche Atlanta (www.larcheatlanta.org) is a member organization of the international federation of L’Arche (pronounced LARSH; French for “the ark”), a network of 160 communities in 38 countries dedicated to building inclusive community for adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Our unique approach combines individualized care with relationship building that honors the dignity and gifts of each person in our community. In Atlanta, our mission is to transform lives by building community among people with and without disabilities and our vision is a world where everyone belongs. We have three programs: residential services, community outreach, and advocacy. Since our founding in 2012, we have opened two homes in the Decatur area, serve over 500 people through our community outreach programs, and have interviewed over 140 individuals with disabilities across the state of Georgia to ensure legislators are hearing the voices of persons with disabilities as they make policy decisions.

The Development Director will be responsible for leading and managing L’Arche Atlanta’s fundraising efforts to raise $1 million in annual operating support and successfully complete upcoming house campaigns. L’Arche Atlanta has a robust fundraising program with diversified philanthropic revenue streams including foundation grants, major gifts, digital and print appeals, social media and crowd-sourced campaigns, and government grants.

Reporting structure:  

  • Receives delegation from the Executive Director.
  • Delegates to the Communications & Events Manager, Gift Entry Processor and to grants, events and graphic design contractors.
  • Work in collaboration with other teams within the organization: Leadership, Community Events, Residential Services, Office Administration, Human Resources, etc.

 

Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to: 

  • Grow the existing fundraising plan that includes annual giving, major gifts, events, corporate and private sponsorships, and grants.
  • Identify, cultivate and solicit individuals, foundations, corporations, and local businesses.
  • Oversee the organization’s grants program, including preparing grant reports, maintaining grant records, and managing a grants contractor.
  • Collaborate with the leadership team to identify fundraising opportunities and develop strategies across all teams to maximize fundraising efforts.
  • Engage in the life of the local L’Arche Community by attending events and celebrations, and building relationships with community members.
  • Engage in the life of the L’Arche Federation by occasionally engaging in and supporting national peer cohorts around fundraising and potential collaborative campaigns.
  • Makes reports to the Board of Directors at bi-monthly board meetings and staffs the Development & Communications Board sub-committee.

 

Required Qualifications: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field (e.g., non-profit management, fundraising, marketing, communication), and/or 7+ years of experience in fundraising, preferably at a local non-profit.

 

Preferred Qualifications:  

  • Capital Campaign experience.
  • Proven track record of successfully cultivating and soliciting donations of $50,000 or more from individual donors, foundations, and corporations.
  • Knowledge and experience in Metro Atlanta philanthropy.

 

Core Competencies:   

  • Be able to demonstrate critical thinking and problem solving.
  • Proficiency in public speaking, face-to-face major donor solicitations, professional writing, and digital literacy (e.g. – fundraising databases and CRM systems).
  • Interpersonal effectiveness in building relationships and the ability to compellingly articulate the mission.
  • Interpersonal effectiveness in building relationships with persons with disabilities through respectful communication and appropriate/professional boundaries.

Compensation: Up to $85k with benefits including health insurance, vision, dental, and basic life insurance, generous vacation, and opportunities for professional development.

Interview process: applicants selected to proceed with an interview will have a phone screening with the interim Development Manager, and in-person interviews with the Executive Director and other staff.
